Amazon’s IMDbPro gets its first mobile app

Amazon-owned online movie database IMDb has launched its first standalone mobile app for Pro subscribers.

While IMDb is the go-to platform for millions of movie geeks, both on the web and through native mobile apps, one of the ways it makes money is through its IMDbPro subscription service, which is aimed at industry professionals, including actors, executives, and crew. Pro users pay $20 per month, or $12.50 per month when billed annually, to be able to update their profile, browse casting notices, and more.

Initially launching for iPhone users only, the IMDbPro app ushers in many of the same features that are available through the web version, including trending Starmeter and Moviemeter data and contact details for more than 300,000 professionals. The app also allows you to tap on the contacts to email or call directly.

“IMDbPro members are busy professionals who are frequently out in the world taking meetings and making connections,” said IMDb founder and CEO Col Needham. “Our new IMDbPro iPhone app empowers members to access the entertainment industry’s most complete and authoritative information resource wherever they go, and was developed in collaboration with IMDbPro customers, who have told us that a mobile app is the number 1 most impactful new product we could launch to support their daily professional needs.”

IMDb started out as a pre-web hobby project more than 25 years ago and has been an Amazon company since 1998. Along with Rotten Tomatoes, it remains one of the most popular online repositories for information on just about everything related to movies and their makers.
