Daytrotter and Paste Music launch mobile app

Look out, Spotify: A new mobile app from Paste Music and Daytrotter, housing “the world’s largest collection of live recorded music,” is now on the market.

The free app, called Paste Music & Daytrotter, was released Wednesday.

Logging onto the free app allows users to stream tens of thousands of live recordings from their smart phones, according to an announcement on Paste Music, a magazine and website that partners with Daytrotter.

It also offers another method of listening to the music recorded at Daytrotter, the independent music streaming site and studio that Quad-City native Sean Moeller founded in 2006.

Daytrotter’s recording studio, called Horseshack, was originally located above Huckleberry’s Pizza in downtown Rock Island. In 2016, Daytrotter moved to its current location at 326 Brady St., Davenport, where its staff continues to record multiple sessions, with touring bands and musicians, per day. The Davenport location also houses a concert venue.

Daytrotter and Paste had previously been sister sites and announced an official partnership in August. The sites now share live recordings and have a joint social media presence.

Along with newer tunes from The Lumineers or Mac DeMarco, the app features archived recordings going back more than five decades, including Jimi Hendrix playing the Winterland Ballroom in 1968 and Run-DMC on their first-ever tour.

Users can also stream recent performances by Vampire Weekend, Bon Iver and Glen Campbell recorded at the Paste Music studio in New York and the Daytrotter studio in Davenport.

To download the app, search “Paste Music & Daytrotter” on the App Store and Google Play.
