Fayetteville launches mobile app to help residents

Information about the city of Fayetteville now will be at the tips of residents’ fingers, thanks to a new mobile app that launched Monday.

The free app is intertwined with the city’s website. The city announced the launch at a news conference at City Hall.

“We are excited to announce the launch of our City app, as it will greatly enhance residents’ ability to find information quickly and easily,” city spokesman Kevin Arata said. “The app will make it easy to access those features and content most-visited on our website without requiring a lot of effort on their part. It also puts us on par with other large cities that offer apps for their residents to be able to better communicate with residents beyond what our website currently accomplishes.”

The app includes links to biographies of the Fayetteville City Council, information on recreation and other attractions, city news releases, transportation assets within the city and utility provider contact information.

In addition, the mobile app has several interactive features, Arata said. One of those features is an interactive map created for the upcoming Dogwood Festival this weekend. The app allows residents to learn about the locations of festival vendors and concerts.

Another interactive feature of the app is the Arts Council of Fayetteville-Cumberland County Work in Progress sculptures that are placed throughout downtown Fayetteville.

The app allows residents to click on the sculpture’s location to learn more about the artist and the inspiration behind the piece.

Arata said residents can elect to have the mobile app give them push notifications. For instance, push notifications would be sent out during emergency situations such as Hurricane Matthew.

The city hopes to reach 10,000 downloads of the app in the near future.

Arata said the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau also is also in the process lauching an app aimed at visitors that will be connected to the city’s app.

It will have information about dining, shopping and churches.

Residents are encouraged to download the city app, titled Fayetteville NC, and the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau app, titled Scout Look, in the Apple store for iPhones and Google Play for Android devices.
