Jacksonville, FL – It’s a phrase we’ve all become familiar with— “If you see something, say something.”
Now, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority is introducing the ‘JTA See & Say’ mobile app to make it easier to report threats, safety, and security concerns in real-time.
Leigh Ann Rassler, Public Relations Manager for JTA, says the free app is all about engagement.
“The whole purpose is to just really engage the community, to get not just our customers out there riding the bus, but staff– the people that are working here at JTA, whether they’re operators or they’re at our stations– and then just the general community out there to raise awareness. To let everybody know that if you see something, to say something,” explains Rassler.
JTA released the following list of potential safety and security concerns that could be reported in this new app, but they say it’s NOT limited to only these issues:
- Assault or Fighting
- Disruptive Behavior
- Illegal Parking
- Nuisance Behavior
- Graffiti or Vandalism
- Suspicious Activity
- Unattended Bag or Package
- Damage to JTA Bus Shelters or Bus Stops
- Person Needs Assistance (Non-Emergency)
As part of the ‘JTA See & Say’ app you can report these concerns anonymously or you can actually put in your information to get an update and feedback on the situation.
But, JTA says if you have any immediate concerns, they do still want you to call 911, if possible.
“A lot of times people might be in a situation where they don’t feel comfortable making a call, because they’re in an environment where that person would see that they’re doing that. So, this is a way that you can do that, without someone recognizing what you’re doing, as well,” says Rassler.
If you’re unable to download the app, you can also send reports using “Text-a-Tip” at (904) 800-4314.
All reports through the app and the ‘Text-a-Tip’ line will be monitored 24 hours a day by JTA’s security team.
