Mobile app soon for birth, death registration in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Now obtaining birth and death certificates will be easier for the residents of Odisha capital in the upcoming days as the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is going to launch a mobile app soon for birth and death registration.

In view of crowd and heavy rush in front of death and birth registration office every day, the BMC authorities have decided to make the process online.

A private firm ‘Honeywell’ has been approached for developing a mobile software and application for making the registration process easier for the residents.

The BMC is planning to make the birth and death registration system online for which a website is already functioning. However, the applicants have been complaining about the services provided through the website. We are trying to make the online service more people oriented, said Urban Health officer Dr Ramachandra Rout.

As most of the people are not aware of the online system to obtain the birth and death certificates, they will be asked to apply for the certificates following registration online, he informed.

According to reports, as many as 400 birth and death registrations are being made every day in Bhubaneswar. Out of total registration, maximum numbers are being done offline. The applicants have to stand long hours in queue in front of the registration office to get certificate. Even, huge crowd is also seen at the registration office for correction of the certificate.

Earlier, the local government authorities had launched a service for birth and death registration through e-municipality application where applicants get SMS and e-mail alerts during registration of birth and death certificates. A website www.ulbodisha.gov.in managed by TCS is also functional for online birth and death registration and obtaining the certificates by payment of government fee.

However, the website could not be user friendly as people made complaint regarding the service. As most of them are not tech savvy, they reportedly face difficulties in downloading the application form and submitting it at Urban Health office to obtain certificates.
