Patreon adds Snapchat-style Lens feature to mobile app

Personal sponsorship platform Patreon has become the latest to add a Smapchat-style feature to its mobile app. It’s called Patreon Lens, and it allows exclusive content to be shared with a selected audience.

Patreon’s platform is open to content creators of all kinds, and lets fans back them by paying a subscription-like donation each month for early looks at material, or exclusive access to special benefits.

The new Lens feature is an addition to this. The site suggests Lens can be used to take fans behind-the-scenes on new projects, share travelogues or adventures, or simply to connect with people on a more personal level. The content can be shared publicly, or only with backers.

It doesn’t appear to be a time-limited feature, which made Snapchat’s Stories and the following copycats all standout. Instead, it relies on the exclusivity of Patreon to make the feature special. Patreon’s mobile app is available for Android and iOS.
