Ryder System, the giant truck leasing and rental company, jumped into the mobile app arena Tuesday with RyderGyde, which gives truckers and fleet managers quick access to key information like daily fuel prices.

The report states that mobile trucking apps in North America have the potential to become a $35.4 billion market by 2025.

The RyderGyde app is available on iOS and Android phones and can be downloaded on the App Store and Google Play, said Aimee Schmalzle, senior director of digital and demand generation of Ryder.

With the app Ryder customers in North America can view and manage the vehicles in their fleet that need servicing and can then schedule maintenance appointments within 60 seconds, she said.

“Consumers today have increasingly high expectations for service and delivery, so the need to ensure fleet uptime is greater than ever,” said Dennis Cooke, president of fleet management solutions of Ryder.

Users can compare Ryder’s contracted fuel rates with rates from thousands of other fueling stations.

Fleet managers can also contact roadside assistance with the app if a problem with a truck.

“We are really trying to develop something that continuously provides better benefits for fleet managers and drivers,” Schmalzle said. “We will continue to add more features that will make the app more useful over time after receiving feedback from customers.”

In the future the RyderGyde app will allow customers to rent a vehicle, browse used vehicle inventory for sale and log fuel receipts, Schmalzle said.
